Awards for All, the lottery grants scheme for local community projects, has announced its latest awards in Berkshire. The grants range from £500 to £5,000, bringing lottery funding into local neighbourhoods.

Matt Anderson, Senior Awards Officer for the South East says: 'We are pleased to announce these latest awards, and we continue to make awards throughout the year. So if groups have a good idea they should take a look at our website - www.awardsforall.org.uk - to see if they might qualify for funding or call 0845 600 20 40 to obtain an application pack. In particular we'd like to hear about projects that celebrate local history or bring heritage to life.' Total Awarded in Berkshire £23,028

Reading


Berkshire Association of Clubs for Young People £2620
This organisation will a run a two day dance workshop and competition for young people between 10 and 19 years old. Children from all over the county will be able to attend and meet new people. Qualified dance instructors will run the workshops in range of styles from jazz to street dancing. The finale will be a competition held in a local theatre where participants will be able to perform on stage with professional sound and lighting.

Support Women and Children Organisation (SWACO) Ltd £5000
This group will organise workshops, seminars and advice sessions for disadvantaged women and children, many of whom come from black and minority ethnic groups. These sessions, run by professionals, will provide support and advice to help overcome the linguistic and educational barriers to employment. Teachers will also hold sessions to address poor literacy and social exclusion amongst disadvantaged children.

Slough


Punjabi Heritage Film Association (Slough) £5,000
Six young people from the local Punjabi community will be given the opportunity to learn about their history and culture through film. They will research a specific aspect of their heritage using archive footage, and put together a short film which will then be shown in community centres, schools and libraries. The project will provide the young people with new skills and will encourage the local community to learn about the Punjabi heritage.

West Berkshire


Burghfield Sailing Club Sailability Group £3,428
With a Lottery grant this club will buy a new dinghy, specially adapted to be suitable for the disabled, and a road trailer to transport it. This will allow more disabled sailors to take up competition sailing at meetings with other clubs.

Windsor and Maidenhead


Windsor Rifle Club £4,600
Windsor Rifle Club will encourage more people to join their group by running an advertising campaign and organising "come and try" days for new members. Before this can be done, the club will replace the leaking and hazardous asbestos roof on the club house and firing range. This will provide a safer and more pleasant environment for new and existing members.

Wokingham


Wokingham and District Society for Mentally Handicapped Children and Adults £5,000
Wokingham District Mencap will run a new Saturday morning art club for children with learning disabilities and their siblings. It will provide opportunities for children aged over five to explore different kinds of art activities in a fun and exciting way. Parents and carers will benefit from having short periods of regular respite from caring for the children.

South East


BTCV £5,000
With Lottery funding the British Trust of Conservation Volunteers will run local group conferences in Oxford, High Wycombe and Reading. Each event will be attended by representatives from local community groups from each respective county. The conferences will give the reps the opportunity to share information and experiences, solve common problems, and establish a way forward for community conservation.
