The Community Channel

News from: Reading Voluntary Action (RVA)

30 November 2004

The Community Channel is the UK's only national digital television channel dedicated to inspiring people to do more with their lives. They want to change lives and challenge you!

They're on air 24 hours a day, every day, on Sky digital 585 and Telewest Channel 233. Click here to see their Sky and Telewest schedules. They are also on NTL 14 from 10am to 4pm every day. They are on Freeview 46 everyday from 6am to 9am. The Channel is available free to 13 million digital households and 33 million potential viewers. They already know that a million people are tuning in and they receive responses from more than 4,000 viewers a week to their calls to action. They're owned by The Media Trust, and are funded by the Home Office's Active Community Unit and the Community Fund. Sky viewers can now donate to charity, order a fact sheet or have their say through the red button.

If you are involved in a charity or have a wonderful story to tell about the volunteering you do then get in touch now! There are many community groups around the UK offering training or practice in TV production skills. The programmes they make often end up on a shelf, unseen outside the group. If this sounds familiar, and you would like to see your work on the Community Channel then contact them. Most of their community films are in Where You Live or Shorts. They always want inspirational films direct from communities across the UK. People like you who are making television by getting involved in local projects or organisations.

This is the only place you'll get a chance to see such grassroots television programmes. Or perhaps you’ve been involved in a film project and think it deserves to be seen by a wider audience. Just send them an e-mail and they will do what they can to get your voice heard. See their guide for film-makers. Advertising - The Community Channel also broadcasts commercials. They give free space to not for profit organisations on an ad hoc basis.
