Allen Lane Foundation: From January 2007 the Foundation will no longer have closing dates. Applications will be processed continually. The Foundation wishes to fund work which: will make a lasting difference to people’s lives rather than simply alleviating the symptoms or current problems; is aimed at reducing isolation, stigma and discrimination; and encourages or enables unpopular groups to share in the life of the whole community. The Foundation is interested in funding work which benefits people in the following groups, or generalist work which includes significant numbers from more than one such group: asylum-seekers and refugees; gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgender people; gypsies and travellers; offenders and ex-offenders; older people; people from black and minority ethnic communities and migrant workers; people experiencing mental health problems; people experiencing violence or abuse. The Foundation will make grants for start-up, core or project costs. Single, one-off grants range from £500 up to £15,000. Grants repeated for more than one year vary from about £500 per annum up to £5,000 per annum, for a maximum of three years. Paul Hamlyn Foundation: The Paul Hamlyn Foundation is one of the larger independent grant-making foundations in the UK. They make grants to organisations which aim to maximise opportunities for individuals to experience a full quality of life, both now and in the future. In particular we are concerned with children and young people, and others who are disadvantaged. They prefer to support work that others may find hard to fund, perhaps because it breaks new ground, is too risky or is unpopular. They also take initiatives where new thinking is required or where there are important unexplored opportunities. They support work in the following three areas: Arts, Education and Learning and Social Justice. You can check eligibility and submit an outline proposal from their website. Red Nose Day UK Programmes 2005-08 Comic Relief operates 3 grants funds for work within the UK. Each of these has different criteria and different application processes and deadlines. This is their biggest grants fund. During 2005-08 they are concentrating their funding on 6 programme areas: Young people; Older People; Mental Health; Refugees & Asylum Seekers; Domestic Violence; Disadvantaged Communities. They make two types of grants in their open programmes. Main Grants - Grants over £5000. In the main grants programme, you can apply for £5000 or more. They will consider small and medium-sized projects as well as a few larger and longer-term grants where appropriate. Small Grants - Grants up to £5000. You can apply for a small grant in the following three programmes only: Disadvantaged Communities; Older people; Mental health. They can give grants for running costs and capital costs, depending on the programme you are applying to. There is no maximum grant size and the amount you ask for should be the amount you need. They are likely to make some large grants, and a range of smaller grants of between £15,000 and £30,000 each year. They also have a fast-track application process for small grants up to £5000. If you want to apply for more than £100,000 in total, please phone them before you apply. They consider applications for up to £5000 at any time and there are no deadlines. The next deadline date for Red Nose Day Large Grant applications is Friday 2nd February 2007. Dates for future cycles will be posted on their website as soon as possible.
