New Hope seeks volunteers for Whitley Wood Project
by Stephen Magee (Secretary, New Hope)

24 January 2008

New Hope Ltd. is embarking on a project to redevelop the site of a church in Whitley Wood, Reading to provide space for a doctor’s surgery, community centre, church and supported housing.

This project is seen as a vital community development to assist the neighbourhood development of this part of town.

Approximate cost of the project is £4,000,000 for which a variety of funding will be sought.

New Hope has previously completed a similar project, details of which can be found on the New Hope web site (www.new-hope.org.uk)

The job will include financial modelling of new projects to achieve New Hope's and Partners' goals while minimising financial risk and assistance with funding and loan applications to charitable and financial institutions.

The volunteer will work with the Company Secretary and the New Hope project director for the new community centre, to develop appropriate management reporting procedures to control the project, and will then continue to work with the New Hope Project Director and the development project team to control the project and report to the board.

Management accounting skills would be appropriate and of benefit. Experience of the construction industry would be an advantage.

Book-keeping and financial accounting responsibilities are not part of this job. The Board meets approximately six times a year. Attendance at board meetings is a requirement of the role.

Flexibility of evening working is required and the time commitment for the project work may be up to 1 evening per week.

Further details can be obtained in the first instance from the Stephen Magee.
