Berkshire West Primary Care Trust seeks volunteers for a number of roles in a unit that rehabilitates mainly older patients to enable them to go home e.g. talking to patients, various activities (e.g. games), gardening, serving morning teas, basic administration - answering the phone and queries. Hours and days worked can be flexible to suit the volunteer. References and Police checks are required.
ABC to Read (Assisting Berkshire Children to Read) seeks volunteers to work one to one with children aged 6-11 in primary schools in various areas of Reading, during school hours. The main idea is to make the children feel happy and successful, so they start to think of reading as something they can enjoy. Volunteers work outside the classroom situation, reading, playing games and talking to build a relationship with the child. Min commitment of one year required. 5 training sessions must be completed. The next
sessions begin in September in Woodley. References and Police checks are required.
Inspire 4Life seeks:- (a) volunteers with computer experience and patience to help over-60s on Thursday mornings 9.30 or 11.00 start, to learn basic computer skills on regular 6-week courses. Training is provided by existing volunteers and helpers.
(b) Volunteers with an interest in bicycle maintenance/renovations to support session leader who will run after school bicycle repair sessions for children aged 10-11 and their parents/carers on Monday and Wednesday
afternoons and Saturday mornings. References and Police checks are required.
Me2 Club which provides opportunities for children and young people to access main stream leisure and play activities with the support of a volunteer, seeks a Treasurer to prepare accounts, maintain book keeping system and relevant paperwork, pay bills and maintain inland revenue regs. etc. The days and hours worked are flexible to suit the volunteer and can be worked from home. Monthly evening meetings are held from 7.30pm in Woodley. References and Police checks are required.
The Living Rainforest, Thatcham, seeks volunteers for a number of roles:- (a) Admin. assistant with office experience and able to work as part of a team to assist the Volunteer Co-ordinator in the general running and growth of the department, updating volunteer handbooks and files, recruiting new volunteers and supporting co-ordination of volunteers from different departments.
(b) An assistant to help the Marketing Officer with brand development, news releases, brochure design and distribution, exhibition attendance and events. The days and hours worked are negotiable (c) Interpretation volunteer with good written communication skills, an interest in environmental conservation and sustainable life styles and able to carry out in-depth research to assist with the development of The Living rainforest's new guidebook, signage, display materials and web information. Full training will be provided. Time commitment is 11-3pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Reading Community Learning Centre seeks female volunteers with confidence and good communication skills to work as classroom assistants under the direction of a qualified tutor with adult learners to help develop their
language skills. This could include listening to reading practice, working with 3 or 4 students (or 1-1) for 10 minutes on a discussion topic and generally assist the students. Time commitment is 2 hours per day, 9.30-11.30am, 12.30-2.30pm or 6.30-8.30pm. Volunteers are particularly needed for Mondays and Wednesdays 12.30-2.30pm.
Berkshire Humanists seek volunteers for a number of roles including routine office duties, plus supported use of a variety of technologies, fundraising and grant applications; making the most of technology in all and any forms

East-West Detox, an organisation that supports individuals through an alternative treatment for drug/alcohol addiction at the Thamkrabok Monastery in Thailand, seeks a volunteer with legal or finance skills to become a trustee of the charity (limited by guarantee) to guide the organisation and
set strategy for the future. The committee meets every 6-8 weeks on a Sunday 11am-1pm. References and Police checks are required.
Magic Roundabout, a Club that provides an enjoyable afternoon out for stroke victims and respite for their carers, seeks:
(a) a volunteer organiser to arrange speakers, outings and entertainment
for their weekly club on Thursday afternoons, 2-3.30pm
(b) volunteers to assist with the Club activities that may include playing cards, entertainment and speakers.
