Voluntary Opportunities 5th August 2008

Me2 Club seeks volunteers who are reliable, patient, understanding and able to help a child have fun, to support children with disabilities or additional needs to attend mainstream leisure activities such as Brownies, Cubs, sports and drama clubs. Volunteers should be able to commit to 2 hours in an evening during the week, depending on child’s activity. Training is given in 2 evening sessions. References and Police checks are
required and expenses can be paid. The next Induction for new volunteers is on 16 August from 10am-5pm. Please contact the Centre for more details.

Have you 3 hours to spare on Sunday 31 August? Reading Pride Ltd seeks a team of volunteers with basic DIY skills to take down and pack away ‘Harris’ fencing after the previous day’s Pride Festival.

Daisy’s Dream, a bereavement support service for children and their families, seeks volunteers to ‘shake a bucket’ in the Oracle Shopping Centre during week 8th – 14 September. Time commitment to suit the volunteer.

Colostomy Association, an organisation providing support and information to people who have, or are about to have, a colostomy, seeks a volunteer with shorthand and typing skills to take and type minutes for monthly trustee meetings. The meetings take place in Reading town centre on either Wednesday or Thursday from 10.30am-3/4pm. References and Police checks are required.

SPAAK EduCare Learning Centre provides temporary education to young people with learning difficulties or behaviour problems who are excluded from the mainstream classrooms. A volunteer is sought to provide administrative, secretarial and support services to students. Also to provide a reassuring and highly visible presence in the centre to students and staff. Previous
administrative and secretarial skills are essential. CRB checks are
required.

Royal Berkshire Hospital requires reliable, honest, adaptable and outgoing volunteers to carry out short surveys with patients and visitors within the hospital for 3 – 4 hours per day. There will be on site mandatory NHS training for this role. On going support will be given. CRB checks and references are required.

Inspire 4Life seeks:-
(a) Volunteers with computer experience and patience to help over-60s on Thursday mornings 9.30 or 11.00 start for 1.5 hour sessions, to learn basic computer skills on regular 6-week courses. Training is provided by existing volunteers and helpers.
(b) Volunteers with an interest in bicycle maintenance/renovations to support session leader who will run after school bicycle repair sessions for children aged 10-11. and their parents/carers on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. (Bicycles are donated to the school to do up). References and Police checks are required.

Ostomy Lifestyle is an organisation that helps anyone who has had, or is likely to have an ileostomy, colostomy or urostomy operation to get back to ‘normal life’ as soon as possible. They are seeking a Treasurer to monitor financial matters and report to the Board. Experience of working with fast growing and influential organisations ideally as Chair or Chief Executive is essential. Six meetings a year are held at times which are flexible to suit
volunteers.
