£16,000 bid for OAP playground

News from: Age Concern (Woodley)

by Reading Evening Post

26 August 2008

Woodley Age Concern has submitted a bid for a £16,000 grant to provide a playground for pensioners in Woodley.

The charity submitted its application for the cash to Berkshire West Primary Care Trust on Friday morning to pay for the equipment specially designed for older people.

In May, the Evening Post reported the initial proposal for a playground in Woodley with Winnersh Parish Council also interested in providing play areas for adults.

A member of Woodley Older People’s Forum suggested the idea after reading about a similar playground in Blackley near Manchester.

Ann Parr, community care development manager at Woodley Age Concern, said: “This is clearly something people want and would be great exercise and good for them.

“A new generation is coming forward which have gone to the gym but cannot afford it when they retire, and having something outside they can use for free would offer real benefits.”
