Student Community Award
by Ann Westgarth (University of Reading Community Relations Manager)
28 January 2009
Would you like to nominate a University of Reading student or group of students for this award?
The University of Reading has launched the award to recognise the individual efforts of students who help others. It is for those students who help others on their own initiative, perhaps by providing support to others, or by making a contribution to the local community, or for acts of kindness or good neighbourliness.
It recognises a different type of voluntary effort to the contribution made by students who give up their spare time to help out in schools, community centres and local charities through organised volunteering schemes.
Nominations are sought from students, University staff, local residents, or organisations students are involved in and should normally be made without the student(s) knowledge.
The award has been funded by donations made to the Annual Fund by Reading Alumni. Prize(s) of up to £250 may be awarded to individual students, specific groups of students or student households.
The Award Committee, made up of representatives from Reading University Students Union, local residents, the Chaplaincy and the University will announce the winner of the award in April 2009.
The closing date for nominations is 14 March 2009.
