What are your volunteers training needs?
by Marilyn Barrett (Training coordinator)

So far this tear we have concentrated on offering organisations tailor made training that they know their volunteers really need in order to be able to work to their full capacity and strength, we will be using this approach over the next year as well but we need voluntary groups or organisations that work with volunteers to let us know what they need. This could be practical skill such as first aid or food safety, fire training or dealing with difficult situations or managing boundaries. Merlyn Barrett, the training co-ordinator with Reading Voluntary Action is able to come to see you at your venue and discuss this further with volunteers and the people who manage or work with them.
Many groups have got similar needs so if we can find enough volunteers to make up groups we can offer training so please do not feel that your group is too small or that your needs are too diverse.
Most of our training is subsidised as we do not want to exclude small groups and can be held at nearly any venue in Reading.
If you would like to discuss the needs of your group please contact Merlyn Barrett who will be happy to make an appojntment to see you. We can also offer training advice and help you to assess the needs of your volunteers in order to support the voluntary groups in Reading. If you would like your email details to be part of a training events mail list please let me know
