Inauguration of Association of Reading Malayalees

News from: Association of Reading Malayalees (ARMS)

by Thomas Jos (ARMS Secretary)

7 March 2009

The Association of Reading Malayalees was inaugurated on 7 March 2009 Saturday by the Deputy Mayor of Reading, Councillor Fred Pugh. The Deputy Mayoress of Reading Mrs Jean Pugh was a special guest in the event.

ARMS secretary, Thomas Jos welcomed everyone to the inaugural function. He was of the opinion that human quest for cultural roots have ever been an inspiring theme. Large societies often have subcultures, with distinct sets of behavior and beliefs that differentiate them from a larger culture. The minorities can have an identity of their own, but they should support the core concepts of the culture on which the society is based.

The deputy mayor in his inaugural speech appreciated the Reading Malayalees for their services in general and nursing community in specific.

The President, Jim Jacob in his presidential address emphasised that the Malayalee community has some specific issues related to jobs and immigration. ARMS will bring up this subject to the attention of British Government. He requested the Deputy Mayor of Reading, Councillor Mr Fred Pugh to support us in our efforts.

Mr John AT, the Treasure extended the vote of thanks to guests and participants. Mr John said that he has been fortunate enough to work with a team of very motivated and dedicated colleagues, who know their job and are result oriented.

The Deputy Mayoress of Reading Mrs. Jean Pugh released association's website www.readingmalayalee.com on line. The website was designed and created by young talents of Reading, Jerin and Justin. ARMS President Mr. Jim Jacob released the Programme Calendar for the next 1 year.

The Inauguration event started with refreshments and Magic & Entertainment Show by Magic Rob, Children's Entertainer and Magician. The magic show was followed by the Inauguration Ceremony and two hours of Cultural Programme Mega show and Buffet Dinner.

The inauguration was well attended by the participants and VIPs from within and outside the community. 275 people had come to celebrate the inauguration event.

Two hours of cultural programme directed by Mr Sanu Jacob turned the inaugural event to a remarkable and entertaining evening and given an opportunity to Reading Malayalees to express their talents with unique and traditional cultural programmes.

ARMS Vice President Mr Jobin Jose extended the vote of thanks to all artists who worked hard to turn this inauguration event to a beautiful entertaining evening.
