Update from the Criminal Records Bureau
by Criminal Records Bureau
15 April 2009
You will be aware that the CRB is reliant on the Registered Bodies validating and authenticating correctly the identity of Disclosure applicants. To help Registered Bodies carry out this responsibility the CRB provide guidance on the types of checks that must be done and ID documents that can be used.
The CRB has become aware of an applicant who produced a “World Passport” to support his Disclosure Application. This documents looks like the real thing but can in fact be purchased online by any member of the public and should not be confused with a genuine passport.
It is vitally important that Countersignatories examine each ID document provided by the applicant to ensure that these are genuine.
If you are suspicious about the validity or origin of an applicant’s passport or you are unsure about any part of the ID checking process, you can contact the CRB Information Line on 0870 90 90 811 for help and guidance.
