Can you give charity its BIG Break?

A scheme to give disabled children and their families a break was boosted by the Evening Post and the Royals but it still needs more carers.
Reading Family Link Scheme, which supports 32 families in the town by providing short breaks through 20 carers, received almost five times the number of responses it usually gets in a month following the Evening Post’s report on the BIG Breaks campaign on Thursday, March 26.
Cynthia Goodyear, assistant team manager for Reading Family Link Scheme, said: “The response since the article has been great.
“We normally get one or two enquiries a month if we are lucky, but we have received nine since then which for us is very good.
“But we need lots more carers because we’re really developing the service and we need to have more people come forward.
“We want people to give it a go. A lot of people get put off the idea of caring for disabled children because they think they have to have special skills, but we give lots of training and support.
“Nobody’s expected to do more than they can manage. If people are interested they should get in touch with us.”
