£3m Fun and Friendship programme will fund projects for disabled young people

BBC Children in Need has launched a new £3m grant programme focused on charities for disabled people aged between 12 and 18.

The Fun and Friendship programme will help organisations that support independent socialising for disabled youngsters. It will offer up to 12 three-year grants of up to £300,000 each.

Fun and Friendship is aimed at projects that empower disabled young people and work to support opportunities for friendships, fun and social independence. The charity wants to increase learning across the wider sector and, with each successful applicant's contribution, work together to promote new and effective ways of doing things.

The charity said that applicants should demonstrate that their programmes improved social interaction, that young people were involved in determining how they were developed, and that they were committed to sharing what they learned.

The deadline for applications is 31 July. For more information, visithttp://www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/grants/funandfriendship.
