Reading has been chosen as one of only 12 areas in England to pilot a project to encourage interaction between young people and older people. The successful applications will fund projects to run during the next 15 months to March 2011. The highlight will be a week long Festival of Ages in October 2010.
The objectives of the project are:
1. Improved perception of young people by older people
2. Improved perception of older people by younger people
3. Increased involvement of educational institutions in the local community
4. Increased ability for young and older people to make a positive contribution to the life of the community
Bids are invited from organisations for activities that involve both young people (aged under 25) and older people (over the age of 50) in Reading. Intergenerational activities can be either the young helping the old or the old helping the young or both ages working together on a project to benefit themselves or their community.
Funded projects must have a lead organisation that is legally constituted with its own bank account. If you are a smaller, informal group then please contact Richard Stowell at Age Concern Berkshire (
Richards@acberk.org 0118 959 4242) who will arrange to match you with an organisation that can support you and apply as Lead Applicant.
There will be four deadline dates for this funding:
• 30th October 2009 to start initial projects that are already being planned and can start in November/December 2009 and money to be spent by 31st March 2010.
• 27th November 2009 for Projects that can start in January and money to be spent by 31st March 2010.
• 20th January 2010 for projects starting April-July 2010 and complete by 31st March 2011.
• 9th July 2010 for projects that start November 2010 and complete by 31st March 2011.
