25 November 2009
The Active Women programme is a themed funding round provided and administered by Sport England. The programme is intended to tackle gaps in sporting participation, with a particular emphasis on women in disadvantaged communities and women caring for children under 16. It is hoped the scheme will increase the number of women playing sport through stimulating local demand and encourage organisations to identify and provide an appropriate and accessible supply of sporting opportunities.
Eligible organisations must be legitimate and have a written constitution or statutory powers.
Potential applicants could include:
•Sports clubs.
•Voluntary and community organisations.
•Local authorities.
•Education establishments (such as schools, colleges and universities).
•National governing bodies of sport.
Application Procedure
There is a standard application form for all of Sport England’s funding streams. To capture the additional information of particular relevance to the Active Women Themed Round, Sport England will also ask Additional Questions. The additional questions document must be completed and returned as part of an application for it to be assessed.
The application process has two stages.
Applications at Stage One will be assessed and classified as one of the following:
•Progression to development of full bid.
•Rejection.
•Conditional offer made (for small and/or exceptional bids).
Applications successful at this stage will be invited to submit a final bid during Stage Two.
It is anticipated that the deadline for final bids will be 16 July 2010.
