Based in central Reading, the Berkshire Autistic Society is a registered charity, founded in 1990. It provides services, support and information to people with autism, their families, professionals and service providers across Berkshire.

This is a fixed term contract to March 2011. £10.00 per hour (flexible hours up to 6 hours per week). The role involves providing support, advice and assistance for families within their home who have a recent diagnosis for an autistic spectrum disorder for their child.

Essential requirements are: you must be the parent or carer of a child with autism; good knowledge of the support available to families of a child with autism; empathetic, good listener; experience in asking questions to draw out issues; good timekeeper; good organisational skills; self-starter, able to use initiative. You will also need your own transport.

Preferred skills/experience: support work especially delivered in the home; in-depth knowledge of support available to families of a child with autism. Successful candidates will need to pass an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check.
