Joseph Rowntree Foundation Grants- New Insights

News from: Reading Voluntary Action (RVA)

by Nakhat Zahir (Funding Advice Worker)

22 June 2010

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation are seeking proposals for projects that help us understand the future we are facing, and make concrete suggestions for ways in which disadvantaged communities can be protected, or even supported to thrive.

Eligibility: The JRF accepts proposals from any organisation or individual and does not restrict its funding to any particular sector. We are interested in the idea, an appropriate and robust design and the ability to deliver at an appropriate cost.

What For? JRF is commuted to working towards better outcomes for people and places that experience poverty and social disadvantage. They are concerned that the current economic, social and environmental context - coupled with a long-term reduction in public spending - presents a real threat to these communities

Proposals must have relevance to their mission to search out underlying causes, demonstrate solutions and influence lasting change in one or more of our overarching themes: poverty, place and empowerment.

Poverty: to examine the root causes of poverty, inequality and disadvantage, and identify solutions.

Empowerment: to identify ways of enabling people and communities to have control of their own lives.

Place: to contribute to the creation and development of strong, sustainable and inclusive communities.

They are interested in funding a range of projects, including theoretical work or deliberative processes, as well as research projects.

How Much? They are very unlikely to fund any project with a budget of more than £100,000. They expect to fund a complementary mix of larger and smaller projects and their focus is on value for money rather than cost. They therefore welcome both larger and smaller proposals.

Deadline: 12 noon on Monday, 2 August 2010
