Community Development Training

Working in partnership with Berkshire West Primary Care Trust, Reading Borough Council are pleased to be able to offer two training events focused on community development in Reading.

Both events will be held twice this year at RISC in Reading and there are some free places available to those from the third sector.

The training events are as follows:

MANAGING COMMUNITY WORKERS
23 September or 13 October 9.30-4.30
Conference room at RISC.
This one day training event is aimed at managers who support staff and/or volunteers with a current or planned role in working with the community as part of their work. The course aims to raise awareness of the skills and knowledge required in engaging with and working effectively with local communities in order to provide effective support to staff who have this as part of their role.

At the end of the course delegates will have
*Identified the skills required for working with people in the community.
*Explored the values underpinning working with communities and promoting *empowerment of individuals and communities
*Identified ways to support staff.
*Understand the spectrum of participation levels and appropriateness for their agency.

Organisations will be charged £150 cancellation fee if cancelled 5 days or less from the event date (other than for sickness or personal or work emergency and notified by manager)

A sandwich lunch and refreshments will be provided.


Event two is a three-day event to be held on 15, 22 and 29 July or 28, 29 and 30 September at RISC 9.30-3.30pm. Attendance on all three days is required. There is a £30 fee for this programme.

SKILLS FOR WORKING WITH COMMUNITIES
This event is aimed at staff or volunteers with a current or planned role working with communities as part of their work. The focus of the course is practical with use of case studies.

The course aims to develop practical skills in engaging with the community. At the end of the event delegates will have.
• learnt practical skills for working with people in the community
• Explored the values underpinning community development.
• Understood the benefits of developing partnerships with communities and be aware of the range of agencies involved at ground level
• Identified ways to support individuals in the community, especially those who may feel excluded / isolated.
• Awareness of the role of reflection and evaluation in working with communities.
