Sewing machines and materials needed

News from: Phoenix Day Centre

by Freda Potten (Day Centre Supporter)

9 December 2011

We would like to put together the tools, materials and people to make Zimmer frame bags for our visitors and their friends.

For people with mobility problems who use walking frames, it's really handy to have a fabric bag to hang from your frame to carry your essentials.

With a couple of sewing machines and a supply of fabric remnants, thread and trimmings to make a supply of bags, we could start a project to make bags and other things for our users and their friends and family. Any sort of spare material would be useful: duvet covers, sheets, pillow cases etc.

If we can get the machines and materials, we can open the project up to volunteers who would enjoy giving their time to help with the practical task of putting the bags together.

The volunteers would have skills or experience in sewing that they would share for a few hours a week. However, we are also keen to pass on these skills to a new generation and would welcome enthusiastic young people wanting to learn new skills whilst helping us out.

Those interested in donating sewing machines, materials or their time should contact Phoenix Day Centre on 0118 901 5364.
