Food hygiene and the charity cake sale?

'Do we need a food hygiene certificate to sell cakes at our charity fun day?' is a question we are often asked.
If your organisation is regularly selling, or in some circumstances, giving away food then the organisation needs to be registered with the local authority. If you are organising occasional events there is no requirement to register but it is important good food hygiene is practised and that there is someone with expertise to provide guidance and oversee activity.
See below for an information sheet on basic food hygiene.
If your not sure how the regulations apply to your catering activity please phone 0118 9574123 or email
info@rva.org.uk and we will try to assist you.
