Bumper "Toys & Teens" collection
by Monica, AJ & Astrid (Volunteer Advisers)
29 November 2012
As in previous years, RVA has been supporting Reading Family Aid's "Toys and Teens" campaign by acting as a collection point for donations from the people of Reading.
Both the quantity and quality of gifts received this year has astonished RVA volunteers and staff. Volunteer advisor AJ said:
> I am touched by the generosity and the thoughtfulness people have put into buying the gifts, for example one older couple bought vouchers from HMV and Lush, perfect for teenagers.
RVA would like to thank all of the generous donors who have brought in gifts this year, helping to ensure that disadvantaged children and young people in Reading get to enjoy some Christmas cheer.
One such generous soul was Claire Dodsworth, who put a great deal of time and effort in to choosing thoughtful and interesting gifts.
After seeing the appeal advertised in the Reading Chronicle last year, Claire planned throughout 2012 how to give as much as she could, making the most of deals in store, and using her accumulated loyalty card points to purchase gifts as well. Explaining why she was so keen to help Claire said:
> There is real poverty on our doorstep and in these difficult times it's easy to forget that some people have long been in financial crisis.
The collection point at RVA has now closed but other drop-off points around Reading are open until Sunday 2 December.
