Peer Support Worker Accredited Course - from 12 April 2013

Reading Your Way would like to invite individuals with lived experience of mental health issues to join our well-established Peer Support Work course. The free, 8-week course is accredited (2 credits at level 2) by National Open College Network (NOCN). This practical course will help participants own self-development in building their skills and confidence to be able to offer effective support to their peers.
Participants will learn about
* the principles and values of peer support
* listening skills
* using Egan’s 3 stage helper model
* confidentiality
* mental health issues and approaches
* safety
* signposting to services
* the limitations of the role.
The course will be held in Reading at the offices of: A4e Ltd, 2nd Floor, Zenith House, 7 Cheapside, Reading RG1 7AQ and will commence on Friday 12 April 2013 from 10.30am to 3pm.

The training is free and, once qualified, Peer Supporters may be offered sessional paid employment within Reading Your Way. Reading Your Way is part of Together, a national charity working alongside people with mental health issues on their journey to leading fulfilling and independent lives. We offer a range of peer-led groups and activities and a daily cafe drop-in all with a focus on recovery. Peer Support Workers will be working alongside individuals to help them achieve their goals and support them to stay well.
