Activenture organises residential adventure weeks for young people with disabilities and special needs (ages 8-18) throughout the school holidays. During each week disabled and special needs children and young people (guests) are accompanied by a volunteer companion/helper (aged 14+). Their duties, depending on the needs of the guests, will include helping with all general day-to-day care. Volunteer adults and registered nurses supervise all our helpers. All volunteers receive free training and are accompanied by more experienced staff. Additional adults (night owls) are on duty throughout the night checking on each child hourly and dealing with any special night care required.
Activities include (depending on residential location chosen): abseiling, archery, swimming, canoeing, obstacle courses, wall climbing, zip wire, competitions. craft sessions. live bands, karaoke, and days out.
Our residential centres are: Woodrow High House near Amersham, Buckinghamshire and Hindleap Warren, Wych Cross, East Sussex. We cover the cost of volunteer accommodation, meals and activities while with us.
Mr Les Pond - Activenture Training & Recruitment
As well as assisting volunteers aged 14-80 to be trained for their chosen role, I also visit groups of people (schools, colleges, youth clubs) to give talks.
