Amnesty International promotes human rights and campaigns against specific abuses of those rights. It is an international voluntry organisation. Books for Amnesty is part of the fundraising section of Amnesty International UK. It sells good quality, reasonably priced books in a wide range of fiction and non-fiction. Amnesty International was founded in 1961 by London lawyerg Peter Beneson who publicised the plight of forgotten 'prisoners of conscience' imprisoned for their beliefs who have neither used or advocated violence. The Reading branch of Books for Amnesty was opened in 2004 and is manned entirely by volunteers.
