Apollo Youth Club was started in 1972 by a group of young black people to provide a service for young black people who, for a variety of reasons, were not accessing the existing youth service provision. It now provides a range of educational, play and leisure services to children and families (primarly but not exclusively from the African Caribbean community) which includes a homework club, after school and holiday clubs, a karate club, and work placements for young people involved with the youth offending service. It also participates in local events such as the Children's Festival and West Reading Carnival.
