The Group have the following objects:
a) developing and promoting Humanism within the County of Berkshire and neighbouring areas.
b) advancing education generally, in particular by helping local schools to include Humanism in Religious Education and Philosophy studies.
c) encouraging the celebration and commemoration of important events with Humanist Ceremonies.
We meet, at present in member's homes, on the second Sunday of each month to socialise and discuss issues of current and wider concern to Humanists. A public meeting to be held at a central venue is in the first stages of planning and we hope this will become an annual event. When asked, we visit schools to encourage comparative religious studies by putting the Humanist viewpoint to pupils, usually alongside other religions and beliefs. We offer a website, forum and telephone advice whenever freedom of Human rights comes into conflict over religious matters. We are developing contacts with other organisations including the Reading Interfaith Forum and those covered by Reading Voluntary Action.
