The Charity Commission for England and Wales has the stated aim of giving the public confidence in the integrity of charity. It works with charities by providing help and guidance, and checks any abuses. Key aspects of its work include: registering charities and maintaining the public register of charities; giving advice and guidance to charity trustees to help them administer their charities more effectively; investigating misconduct and abuse of charitable funds and assets, and taking or recommending remedial action; making Schemes and Orders to modernise the purposes and administration of charities, and to give trustees additional powers; publishing a wide range of free guidance to charity trustees on all aspects of running a charity, including a range of publications in other languages, Braille and audiocassette.
