Its role is a to protect and improve the environment and contribute to sustainable development through the integrated management of air, land and water, with an emphasis on education and vigorous enforcement wherever necessary. The Agency has specific responsibility for water resources, pollution prevention and control, flood defence, fisheries, conservation, recreation and navigation throughout England and Wales.
