The Mills Archive houses one of the biggest collections of images and records on traditional mills. These include traditional windmills and watermills as well as structures powered by wind, water, humans and animals. Milling includes millwrighting and the place of the mill in social, economic, engineering, technological and architectural history.

We aim to preserve and protect the records of our milling heritage and industrial archaeology. These are made freely available to the public in our library and research room and via our website. The online catalogue (www.shop.millsarchivetrust.org) contains entries to thousands of digital images and to the extensive donated collections of documents and other records we hold.

These collections cover mills in the UK and abroad, the people who worked in them, and their associated trades and manufacturing. We also have scale plans, drawings and images that show mill design and construction.

We welcome visitors by appointment Monday to Friday, 10.00am-4.00pm.
