A charitable company limited by guarantee, Reading Association for the Blind's roots go back to 1883 but the Association in its present form dates from 1926. It is our aim to help and assist blind and partially sighted people in Reading to provide leisure and recreational facilities and to work for the improvement of the quality of their lives. To this end we offer handicraft clubs, social activities, a resource and information centre and a home visiting service.

Handicraft clubs

Occupational therapy for registered blind/partially sighted people in Reading Borough. Members make stools, baskets, trays, knit squares for blankets, make greetings cards, etc. Finished products can be purchased. Refreshments are available with filled rolls at lunch time and soup during the winter months.

Available to registered blind and partially sighted people living in Reading Borough. Flexible hours by appointment only.

Three visiting officers offer advice, counselling, practical help and support to housebound people.

Aids to daily living such as talking watches and clocks, liquid level indicators, bumpons, etc. can be inspected and purchased. Many items can be tried on loan, also music and story tapes/CDs. Information and advice is available on many services and new technical equipment.

Social club: 2.00-4.00pm, 2nd Tues at Walford Hall during term time. Rambles: 10.00am-4.00pm alternate Mondays. Out and about: infrequent Thurs pm. Theatre visits: infrequent evenings. Summer outing: July. Annual party: January.
