Reading Refugee Support Group is run by refugees for refugees, along with members of the local community. We provide a practical support system for refugees and asylum seekers. Our aim is to ensure that they are aware of, and that they benefit from, their rights by using our services. Our casework and volunteering projects provide our clients with the following: advocacy, access to services such as housing, healthcare, education and training, practical help, such as providing furniture and clothing, interpreting, social events.

This project offres clients following services:

English 1-1 Programme

The project is to provide Free 1-1 English and Life Skills teaching to refugees and asylum seekers in the Reading area. Tutors are volunteers and all have Teacing English as a Foreign Language qualification.

The will act for many as a transition into mainstream group learning.

There is not set day or time, rather lessons are arranged between the tutors and students on mutually convenient times.

Women's Group

This group is run by refugees and asylum seeking women.The group consist of women from different countries and age groups. The women get together once every two weeks to socialise and have a free lunch. They take turns to cook the lunch and teach the rest, how to cook a traditional meal.it is also a chance for them to share ideas and expereinces, learn about each other's cultures as well as visit different places such as museums, parks, libraries etc.

Occasionally non refugge women are welcomed but are expected to pay a donation.
